László Dömötör, the divorced registrar, cannot get rid of his ex-wife any more than he can get rid of marriages. He is desperate to find new love, with little success. After Dömötör gets drunk as a tension reliever at work and turns one of his weddings upside down, his boss fires him. On his way out, he catches a glimpse of Norbert Lázár, an up-and-coming, semi-secret producer who runs nightclubs. Unconfirmed reports say he died in Africa. The man looks exactly like him. All of this spurs him to a crazy idea. A modernised adaptation of the 1942 comedy.

Bálint Sáfár, the charming businessman has several affairs, and when his wife Zsófi - with whom he has two children - finds out about his infidelity, she breaks up with him. Bálint decides to move to one of his houses on sale. On the same day Bálint's subcontractor Joci, who renovates his houses, breaks up with his girlfriend Szonja and decides to stay at this same house. Joci has some serious issues in his private life. His girlfriend Szonja couldn't get pregnant for years, and after her hormone therapy, he just can't live with her anymore. Dávid Jakab, successful businessman realises that his wife, Tamara hates him and wants to get a divorce on their 16th anniversary. Dávid asks Bálint if he could stay at his house while he tries to save his marriage. The series follows these freshly-divorced guys' lives as they try to solve their relationship problems.

The setting is Croatia and the time is the first third of the 20th century. The characters in this carnival "comedy" are drawn from the upper echelons of Croatian society. Krleza's characters talk of love, morality and art, but their appreciation of each other, their sense of true love, is as alien to them as true art: their approach to life and art are both false.

Péter Sóvári is a successful actor and notorious womanizer. Director Lajos Borsai, equally fond of the playboy lifestyle but in dire financial straits, aims to secure his fortune by wooing Mexican soap-opera tycoon Dulcinea de la Rosa as both wife and backer for his script. Their paths collide when both men fall in love with rising star Ibolya.
